Where girls become
Eagle Scouts
The greater Seattle area's only independent all-girls Scouting America unit, welcoming girls from Mercer Island, Bellevue, Seattle and the greater Eastside since 2019. We meet Tuesdays at 7pm at the Congregational Church of Mercer Island, and have monthly hikes, campouts and service opportunities.

About Troop 678
Independent · Girl-Led · Est. 2019
In February 2019 — the very first month Scouting America opened its ranks to girls — Troop 678 answered the call. We were among the founding cohort of girls troops in Chief Seattle Council, and nationally, and we remain the greater Seattle area's only independent all-girls unit.
From the beginning, we've been built entirely around girls. The scouts plan their own meetings, run their Patrol Leadership Council, and set the adventures for the year. This is their troop.
Troop 678 has grown into one of the largest and most active girls troops in the region — welcoming scouts from Mercer Island, Bellevue, Woodinville, and across the Eastside.
We focus on outdoor adventures, rank advancement, earning merit badges, and service to our community.

"Girls from Troop 678 learn life lessons on epic 12-day hike"
Two all-female Troop 678 crews tackled the Sangre de Cristo Mountains of New Mexico in summer 2021 — among the only all-female crews on the trail that summer. Carrying 35 to 50-pound packs, the girls covered 67 and 51 miles over 12 days, hiking through thunderstorms and 100-degree heat. When the rain came, they started singing on the trail.

Troop 678 scouts summited Mount Rainier in late July 2022 — one of the most technically demanding mountaineering achievements in the Pacific Northwest. The climb capped months of high adventure training including snow school and technical mountaineering preparation.

Trip Highlights
Scouts and leaders share some of the great trips Troop 678 has taken together.

Scouts prepared for and summited Mount Baker - elevation 10,781 - the active, glacier-covered stratovolcano in the Cascade Volcanic Art and the North Cascades of Washington State.
Scouts participated in the COPE: Challenging Outdoor Personal Experience Training - a Scouting America program that uses ropes courses and climbing challenges to build teamwork, communication, trust, and problem-solving skills

Troop 678 scouts Amelia Han and Lexi Liu summited Mount Rainier in late July 2022 — the highest mountain in Washington state at 14,411 feet. The climb came after months of high adventure training including avalanche awareness, snow school, and technical mountaineering preparation. Two Troop 678 scouts reached the top.

Scouts dived into adventure at Seabase High Adventure Camp in Florida, where they engaged in marine exploration and education, coral restoration, scuba and snorkeling.
Scouts' tents during a snowy expedition - earning them "frost points"!

Scouts backpacking at the desert basin Ancient Lakes in Central Washington.
Scouts doing trail maintenance with the Washington Trails Association. Scouts volunteer regularly in the community and must complete 50 hours of conservation service to earn the rank of Eagle Scout.

Scouts and parents enjoyed snowshoeing at Copper Creek and staying at the Hut this past January. Scouts snowshoed the trails, cooked some delicious food, and enjoyed stargazing on the snowy field at night.

Scouts practicing their archery skills, one of the many Scouting skills that exercise minds as well as bodies, developing a steady hand, a good eye, and a disciplined mind..

Eagle Scouts
The Eagle Scout rank is earned by fewer than 4% of all Scouts. It requires 21 merit badges, troop leadership, and a significant community service project designed and led entirely by the Scout. Troop 678's Eagle Scouts are among the first generation of girls in American history to hold this honor.
